Just Because

just because

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Decent beats and unique sense of meter’s pretty good but
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
We didn’t wish you wouldn’t but we don’t wish you would
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should

A little bit of talent and a whole lotta mirth
I been hyperlexic and dyschronic since birth
Never coulda figured out what any of this is worth
So I doubted the efficiency of my stint here on Earth

With a dearth of common sense and intense depression
I use my microphone like a therapy session
Digressing into alliterative emotional regression
I could really use a healthy dose of verbal discretion

I mention this simply to have reason to rock a rhyme
But I devolve into introspective rambling every time
Five piles of my two cents ain’t worth a dime
But that don’t stop me stacking them in a hill I gotta climb

I’m just tryin’ to fight my inner vice
Trying not to be a loser but I can’t win twice
While being seen as a lyrical genius might be nice
Sometimes I just need to be heedin’ my own advice

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
No one wants to hear about your thoughts on morning wood scotty
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Didn’t say you couldn’t but we didn’t say you could buddy
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should

No one needs to hear what this old fart thinks
Or my antiquated whining about how being smart stinks
Constantly combing memories for any sort of links
Hitting save on the session before I get my 40 winks

When I drink from the fountain of knowledge I tend to choke
On thoughts that certain members of the crowd consider woke
Then I draw up the cowl on my invisibility cloak
Inevitably drawing dagger in the dark and go for broke

As I stoke up the flames of capitalist discontent
The heads of state live in my head free of rent
I don’t understand why half of us are hell-bent
On propping up fascist disestablishment

Well we went down this road once before in the forties
Since then solving problems with our helicopter sorties
Sorta points to a problem with our species trying to solve
Disagreements when questions of human rights become involved

You’d think we’d have evolved past war by now
With many peaceful examples in the past to show us how
But every human has hate down in their bowel
While the white flag of peace stands for throwing in the towel

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Throwing rhyming words together really does no good
You’re being an embarrassment to everyone in the hood brother
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Decent beats and unique sense of meter’s pretty good but
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
We didn’t wish you wouldn’t but we don’t wish you would Scotty
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should homey
Nunya beats and lyrics ever sounded any good
Only listened cuz we used to know you back in the day
But we weren’t quite prepared for the shit you had to say

By the way it’s ok to hold your tongue sometimes
You’re not required to recite every synonym that rhymes
We get it that you’re clever man we heard a hundred times
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean it ain’t a crime

Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap doesn’t mean you should
Just because you can rap
